Let's make a toast to the positives
Let's make a toast to the positives
It's no exaggeration to say that this year has been difficult. It has tested many of us to our limits, challenging relationships, physical health, mental health, and financial security. Of course, this Christmas and New Year period will look a little different too, with bubbles forming and Christmas parties conducted over Zoom. It's easy to feel down when the year hasn't gone to plan, many of us have lost loved ones, and our Christmas traditions won't all be going ahead.
That's why it's more important than ever to focus on the positives, the things we are grateful for. So this Christmas, instead of feeling anxious, stressed, and down about the negatives of 2020, let's raise a glass to the positives.
.
.
For example, maybe you're grateful that you can spend Christmas day with your family.
Maybe cancelling your summer holiday actually led to you saving money, or appreciating your local area more. Or maybe it made you realise that travel is a privilege and we should be grateful for all of the times that it is possible.
If you still have your health, that's certainly something to be thankful for. Likewise, we should remember to remain grateful for the health of our friends and relatives, rather than taking it for granted.
Maybe through lockdown you learnt a new hobby, spent more time with your family, started a side hustle, or spent more time doing the things that you enjoy.
If you held onto your job through this turbulent year, that's definitely something to be thankful for. Alternatively, if you didn't, maybe a new, better opportunity came your way, or maybe it's just around the corner.
And above all you should be proud. Because in the most unexpected of circumstances, humans adapted. Can't run your restaurant anymore? Operate as a takeaway. Lost you income? Find a new way to make money or budget creatively. Nothing went to plan this year, and yet we somehow made it work and we got through it. We were more resilient and creative than we ever knew we could be, and for that we should all be proud of ourselves for that.
So this Christmas, raise a toast to the positives that 2020 has brought, and for the increased gratitude and the reminder to take nothing for granted. Toast to a better 2021 with a vaccine on the way, and a fresh outlook.
